The Drifters Girl at Liverpool Empire Theatre: RAWD REVIEWS
WRITTEN BY KEZIAH
‘I was amazed straight away with the voices of the people who played the Drifters!’
My name is Keziah, welcome to RAWD Reviews! I am writing this review because I love all things to do with musicals!
On Saturday the second of March I went to the Liverpool Empire to see The Drifters girl which is all about the drifters, their story and the lady who managed them. I am writing about this one today because I think their music is incredible.
When I arrived I was really excited and as we were lining up to get in, a guy outside started singing the Drifters songs which made me and my mum giggle!
As soon as we got inside the building the Drifters songs were being played which set a good and exciting atmosphere from the beginning. When we got to our seats my mum and some of the other audience were extremely excited and they were singing the Drifters songs too!
I was also excited and was very impatient for it to start. When the show did start I was amazed straight away with the voices of the people who played the Drifters. They sounded incredible, the first song was a mashup of a few of their songs and I was very happy when they included kissing in the back row as it is one of my favourite songs.
I loved the stage design, they had a very accurate Studio and they also did a funny Liverpool set up, with of course rain! One of the songs that I really enjoyed was Stand By Me as the guy singing it had a beautiful voice that nearly brought me to tears.
“The show was heartwarming, sad, funny and sweet all at the same time, I was definitely glad I went to see it and I had to fight myself from singing along!”
The manager Faye Treadwell, played by Carly Mercedes Dyer, had an amazing voice, very powerful voice which really showed in Follow Me, and wow she could hold some high notes! I was extremely wowed, her acting was also extremely good, for example when she lost the guy she loved I really believed her grief and she showed a lot of expression and enthusiasm in her role. I would definitely give her a five out of five alone. She left the crowd speechless in every song she sang and every emotional moment she acted in.
Another person I thought did a good job was Jaydah Bell-Ricketts who played Faye's kid, it was her first national tour and she put a lot of energy into all her lines and I could tell she was happy to be there. Her dancing was also very fun to watch with all the turns she did, she put a smile on my face.
The show was heartwarming, sad, funny and sweet all at the same time, I was definitely glad I went to see it and I had to fight myself from singing along! I think anyone who is a fan of the Drifters would love this energy filled show, all the performers were amazing and all the singers were amazing. Me and my mum left the theatre smiling and singing and so did a lot of the audience which made the atmosphere amazing.
I would definitely give this show a five out of five, heck I would give it a one hundred if I could, it's definitely a great watch and you should definitely step on over to their place!
CREATIVE CORNER:
This is a place for Keziah to share any of her creative ideas that are inspired by the show!
Tabitha was a black beautiful cat who was always friendly. She would help anyone who was crying by giving them kisses and cuddles! She would brighten up anyone's day. Tabitha meant everything to me she was my cat and I miss her so much. I remember one cold and miserable day, I was feeling extra sad and I just dropped to the floor feeling exhausted. Well, Tabitha must have known right away something was wrong as she came running with cute little pitter patters and jumped into my lap purring.
Tabitha used to help me sleep. I had always had trouble sleeping and again she must have known this as she would curl up on my pillow and let me snuggle up to her which would intently make me feel safe and calm. I miss all the love she would give me and I spend so much time thinking about her and remembering all the love she left me.
