PRETTY WOMAN THE MUSICAL AT PALACE THEATRE, MANCHESTER
Pretty Woman the Musical at Palace Theatre: RAWD REVIEWS
WRITTEN BY KEZIAH
‘It was contagious and put a bright smile on my face, I definitely wanted to sing along!’
My name is Keziah, welcome to RAWD Reviews! I am writing this review because I love all things to do with musicals!
This review is only suitable for people who are 14 or older due the themes within the musical.
On the 27th February I went to see Pretty Woman the Musical at Manchester Palace Theatre.
The musical was about a rich man called Edward played by Oliver Savile, who pays a female prostitute, Vivian played by Amber Davies, to accompany him to his business events for a week, but he starts to fall in love with her.
When the musical started the dancers were extremely enthusiastic which made the whole audience smile. I thought the singers were decent, but the microphones were pretty quiet and I struggled to hear them sometimes.
I was impressed with the stage set up as they had a bright fun set with the Hollywood sign.
The show was very funny and put a bright smile on my face, especially Ore Oduba who played multiple parts. He was hilarious and extremely funny, he even did a ballroom dance which was made into a joke.
I also thought Natalie Paris who played Vivian's friend was an amazing singer. I have seen her in Six the Musical once and I loved her. Her vocal range is extraordinary! I am looking forward to reviewing Six the Musical with a different cast later on in the year!
There was also a girl who sang some Opera, me and my mum were blown away by her powerful voice.
One of my favourite songs was ‘Luckiest Girl in the World’ which was sung by Amber Davies. She put so much energy into this, it was contagious and put a bright smile on my face, I definitely wanted to sing along. Another song I loved was, ‘Don't forget to dance’ which Ore Oduba sang. The song was extremely catchy and very funny as this was the song that the ballroom joke was in.
I wasn't that keen on the song ‘Welcome to Hollywood’ which was the beginning song. I thought the microphones could have been louder in this song as I couldn't really hear Ore Oduba.
There were a few sexual jokes in this musical which I was expecting, I wouldn't take someone to this show if they are not old enough for this. There were also a few sex references which again is to be expected, they were done pretty well and put in a clever way.
I had some problems with access at the theatre unfortunately. When we got to the theatre, we had issues with the toilets as there were not many disabled toilets and not much space to queue. I personally think there should be a quiet room for people with disabilities as it was very stressful waiting with all the crowds. I also think there needs to be hand rails both sides of the stairs as i was struggling to walk up and down them.
I thought the show was okay and I would give it a three stars out of five. I would say it wasn't out of this world or anything extraordinary, but it was funny and it did put a smile on my face.
I would recommend this show if you are just looking for a good laugh.
