Wonder Boy at Liverpool Playhouse Theatre
Wonder Boy: RAWD REVIEWS
WRITTEN BY KEZIAH
My name is Keziah, welcome to RAWD Reviews! I am writing this review because I love write, see theatre and share my creativity.
On the 27th of September I went to see "Wonder boy" at Liverpool Playhouse which tells the story of Sonny, a 12-year-old boy with a stammer, and his struggle to be heard in a world where language holds significant power.
The show starred Hilson Agbangbe as Sonny, Ciraran O'Breen as Captain chatter, Naia Elliott-pence as Roshi, Eva Scott as Wainwright, and Jessica Murrain as the mum/fish.
When I arrived it was a little chaotic as I wasn't really sure where to go, but when I finally got to my seat the stage set was really cool, it had platforms that were used for all different stuff like seats, stages, and a bench, there were also desks used for the school setting.
One of my favourite moments of the show was when Sonny was cast in a Shakespeare show and the actors dressed as Shakespeare and fought with him over his stutter.
They used cool effects like smoke, lighting, and really cool music.
Another great scene was when Sonny was having a breakdown over his stuttering and the actor Hilson Agbangbe played this really well, you could see the anger, stress, and panic in his face, he was incredible!
They used cool ways to change the scene, for example they would play cool music, and use the actors who were In the next scene to bring things on in character.
I do think that Roshi's last scene was a little rushed and it could have been better with a more rewarding ending for her.
I did really love the message about being yourself and the actors did an amazing job.
I would give this show a 5 out of 5 as it was extremely creative and very fun.
CREATIVE CORNER:
This is a place for Keziah to share any of her creative ideas that are inspired by the show!
With my anxiety I used to struggle getting on stage, I loved acting but I also used to hate it I would constantly overthink, I thought everyone would laugh at me, I thought I would mess my words up, and I thought I would trip, I never thought I was capable of preforming big roles I even used to have selected mutism, however all that changed when I released that myself was enough, and so I decided to join the school play for the first time, I remember the auditions my heart was racing, I was terrified, but when I got up something new took over me I auditioned with all I had and I got the main part! After that day I found a new confidence, I've been in many shows, and I've been on tour so never give up despite your struggles because everyone can achieve whatever they put there minds to.
